Sanctions

Collective term referring to international (e.g. European Union, United Nations) and domestic rules applied to change the behaviour of governments or institutions. Typical measures include: asset freezing; trade and/or investment bans; restrictions on funds transfer.

In the context of Trade Finance transactions, sanctions may, amongst others, affect: being in a club or syndicate with designated institutions; financing designated persons or designated goods; undertaking payment obligations in favour of designated persons.
